Two stained glass portholes, made 24 years ago by myself and at last in position, well mainly to see if they fit and if my fitting ideas will work.
Have given myself plenty of practice at cutting out circles with a jig saw and and a band saw...I have to say that with the right equipment and all that..... but am relieved that the original chrome door frames were still intact...they were fastened with screws, but I found some rather nice flat ended bolts with wing nuts for the inside which look rather good and proper..
The larger one on the left used to house a spotlight but a window will give better light and vision forward from inside. Hence just a bit of sandblasting and we have an etched circle and WR for WildRose of course.... and then another circular wooden frame, also made to bolt in place...
I do love stained glass and thoroughly enjoyed learning how to cut the glass and solder it all together. Its a miracle that they have survived all this time and I will be relieved to get them fixed in place at last. As they are a bit special, I want to make the framework holding them in place as good as I can so am not rushing and hoping to use some interesting woodwork around the doors and the immediate interior.
Originally there were 2 deep cupboards on each side of the doors but they took up too much precious interior space. On the other hand, there needs to be places for things to go.
Evolution is an excellent way forward.... put the essentials in place and let the rest find its own space. I suspect flexibility will be the key to such a tiny interior (at 23ft x 6ft6ins) about the size of my hallway !!!! but oh so cosy it wuz Ha....
Now I know it all fits together ... phew ....., all will be removed tomorrow as I hear that the weather is going to be good enough to get the paint and rollers out and give the sides a couple of coats of Oxford Blue (of course Ha Ha)
